  2. 2.

    Assign Inputs

Terraria works great with multiple keyboards/mice or controllers per instance.

  3. 3.

    Host World

Click Play. In the first instance, open a world and set it to multiplayer (LAN). In the second, join via the LAN server list.

Tips

Terraria is extremely lightweight — 4-player split-screen runs on almost any PC.

Use tModLoader handler for modded Terraria — make sure all instances have the same mods enabled.

Each player has their own character and inventory but shares the world.

Journey Mode characters cannot join non-Journey worlds — use matching character modes.

Common Issues

Terraria second instance can't find the LAN world +
Open the console in the host instance and note the server IP. In the client instance, use 'Join via IP' and enter 127.0.0.1 with the displayed port.

About Terraria Split-Screen

Terraria is a 2D sandbox action-adventure game by Re-Logic, with over 50 million copies sold. Its 4-player online multiplayer is one of its most beloved features.

The game is extremely lightweight, making it one of the best Nucleus Co-Op choices for lower-end hardware. Four full Terraria instances can run on most modern laptops.

tModLoader, the official Terraria mod platform, has its own dedicated Nucleus handler. This enables modded Terraria split-screen — a highly requested feature for mod packs like Calamity and Thorium.

Terraria's Nucleus handler is among the oldest and most stable in the library, having been maintained since the early days of the project. It is frequently recommended as a beginner Nucleus Co-Op setup.
